FAQs on Meghalaya Holidays in 2027
Good Friday on Friday, 26 March and Diwali on Friday, 29 October both run straight into the weekend for three days off. Mahavir Jayanti on Monday, 19 April extends the weekend before it from the other side, for another three-day run. U Kiang Nangbah on Thursday, 30 December falls close to the year's end, and a single day of leave on the Friday after it turns it into a four-day break. U Tirot Sing Day falls on a Saturday in 2027, so it doesn't add an extra day for offices already closed on weekends.
Yes. It falls on Saturday, 17 July 2027, a fixed date every year, and is observed as a full holiday across Meghalaya to honour the Khasi chief who led early resistance against British rule.
The state administration typically issues it in November or December the year before, so Meghalaya's official 2027 order is expected toward the end of 2026. Several community festivals on local harvest and tribal calendars are added to that notification once their dates are confirmed.
This page lists 19 notified holidays for Meghalaya in 2027: 17 central gazetted holidays observed nationwide and 2 fixed-date days specific to the state. The state's full list typically includes several more community festivals once their movable dates are confirmed.
Yes. Holidays notified for Meghalaya apply across Shillong, Tura, Jowai and Nongstoin, unless a specific government notification states otherwise for a particular district or town.
