Government, Bank & Pooja Holidays List
Bihar's 2027 Holiday Calendar
Bihar's 2027 calendar runs on 25 notified holidays in total, 17 central gazetted days observed nationwide and 8 specific to the state.
Bihar's Own Additions
The holidays specific to Bihar are Makar Sankranti, Bihar Diwas, Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti, Veer Kunwar Singh Jayanti, Chitragupta Puja / Bhai Dooj, Chhath Puja (Sandhya Arghya), Chhath Puja (Usha Arghya), Dr. Rajendra Prasad Jayanti.
Bihar's 2027 calendar runs on the same 17 central gazetted holidays most states observe, Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti among them, plus 8 days specific to the state. Chhath anchors that state-specific list: both Arghya days, 4 and 5 November 2027, are notified holidays, alongside home-grown observances like Bihar Diwas and Veer Kunwar Singh Jayanti. These dates follow the standard panchang until Bihar's General Administration Department publishes its 2027 gazette notification, expected toward the end of 2026.

FAQs on Bihar Holidays in 2027
Yes. Chhath Puja runs across two notified holidays: Sandhya Arghya on Thursday, 4 November, and Usha Arghya on Friday, 5 November 2027. Those two days run straight into the Saturday-to-Sunday weekend that follows, giving most Bihar employers four consecutive days off.
Several, on top of the four-day Chhath stretch covered above. A run of Friday holidays, Makar Sankranti (15 January), Good Friday (26 March), Veer Kunwar Singh Jayanti (23 April), Diwali (29 October) and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Jayanti (3 December), each adds a day onto the weekend that follows. Bihar Diwas (Monday, 22 March), Mahavir Jayanti (Monday, 19 April) and Bakrid (Monday, 17 May) do the same from the other side, extending the Saturday-to-Sunday weekend that comes before them.
Bihar's General Administration Department usually issues its gazette notification for the coming year toward the end of the one before it, so the 2027 list is expected around late 2026. Until it's out, the dates on this page follow the standard panchang, so check them against the official notification once it is published.
Bihar observes 25 notified holidays in 2027 in total: 17 central gazetted holidays observed nationwide and 8 specific to the state.
Yes. Holidays notified for Bihar apply across Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda and Darbhanga, unless a specific government notification states otherwise for a particular district or town.

These are the 2027 holiday dates as currently available. The final schedule for General and Restricted Holidays comes from the Government of Bihar, notified under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Dates for religious festivals can shift based on moon sightings or a later government announcement. Check the latest State Gazette notification or your organization's HR policy before planning leave or financial transactions around any of these dates.
