Government, Bank & Pooja Holidays List

Kerala's 2027 Holiday Calendar

Kerala's 2027 calendar runs on 21 notified holidays in total, 17 central gazetted days observed nationwide and 4 specific to the state.

Kerala's Own Additions

The holidays specific to Kerala are Vishu, First Onam, Thiruvonam, Third Onam.

Kerala's 2027 calendar runs on 17 central gazetted holidays, Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti among them, plus 4 days specific to the state. Those additions follow the Malayalam solar calendar: Vishu opens the month of Medam, and the Onam block sits in Chingam, with Thiruvonam landing on Sunday, 12 September 2027. Kerala's General Administration Department hasn't issued its own gazette for the year yet, expected toward the end of 2026, so these dates follow the standard calendar until then.

FAQs on Kerala Holidays in 2027

Yes. Kerala observes a three-day Onam block in 2027: First Onam on Saturday, 11 September, Thiruvonam on Sunday, 12 September, and Third Onam on Monday, 13 September. Government offices treat all three as holidays. Because Thiruvonam itself falls on a Sunday, a company that normally runs Monday through Saturday only picks up two additional days off, not the full three.

A handful, depending on which weekday the holiday lands on. Good Friday falls on Friday, 26 March, running into the weekend. Mahavir Jayanti lands on Monday, 19 April, and Bakrid on Monday, 17 May, each adding a day onto the Saturday before. Diwali falls on Friday, 29 October, for another three-day stretch. The Onam block in September works the same way, covered above. A holiday on a weekday that isn't next to Saturday or Sunday, like Republic Day on a Tuesday or Janmashtami on a Wednesday, does not stretch the weekend on its own.

Kerala's General Administration Department usually issues its gazette notification for the coming year toward the end of the one before it, so the 2027 list is expected around late 2026. Until that notification is out, the dates on this page follow the standard calendar, so check them against the official gazette once it lands.

Kerala observes 21 notified holidays in 2027 in total: 17 central gazetted holidays observed nationwide and 4 specific to the state.

Yes. Holidays notified for Kerala apply across Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Alappuzha, unless a specific government notification states otherwise for a particular district or town.

These are the 2027 holiday dates as currently available. The final schedule for General and Restricted Holidays comes from the Government of Kerala, notified under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Dates for religious festivals can shift based on moon sightings or a later government announcement.
