*If today or tomorrow falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is usually just a weekly off — weekends only count as a public holiday when a government notification says so.
**Banks and government offices close on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month; Sundays are a weekly off everywhere but count as a declared public holiday only if officially notified.
Farming and tribal customs shape much of what gets marked as a holiday in Chhattisgarh, alongside the usual national dates. Hareli falls at the start of the monsoon and honours farm tools, Pola is a day set aside for the bullocks that work the fields, and Haritalika Teej is the fasting observance kept by married women. December brings Guru Ghasidas Jayanti, one of the most widely observed regional holidays in the state, marking the birth of the Satnami community's spiritual leader.
