Turnover
Turnover, commonly known as revenue, is the amount of money a company makes in a given time period through its standard business activities. Money earned from other, non-core activities, such as renting out land, is usually recorded separately as non-operating revenue. In non-profit organizations and charities, turnover is often called gross receipts.
Turnover is different from profit, which is turnover minus expenditure.
Most businesses, large and small, get asked about their turnover by a range of people, from investors to insurers. When getting a business insurance quote, for example, insurers typically ask for annual turnover so they can work out the right level of cover.
