Tax Identification Number (TIN)
A TIN, or Taxpayer Identification Number, is a unique numerical identifier that tax authorities assign to individuals, businesses, or other entities for tax purposes. In the United States, an individual’s TIN is often their Social Security Number (SSN), while businesses use an Employer Identification Number (EIN) instead.
Other countries have their own equivalents that serve a similar purpose, letting tax authorities track and administer taxpayer obligations. The exact structure and terminology for TINs varies from country to country.
