Summary Dismissal

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

Summary dismissal is the immediate termination of an employment contract because of an employee’s behavior. Employers typically categorize negative behavior into misconduct and gross misconduct. Gross misconduct usually forms the basis for summary dismissal, and can include things like showing up to work under the influence of drugs, violence against a colleague or client, poaching client relationships, or stealing sensitive corporate materials.
