Situational Leadership
Situational leadership is a management theory that holds there is no single best way to lead. Effective leadership is task-relevant, and the most successful leaders adapt their style based on the maturity and readiness of the people they are leading, rather than sticking to one fixed approach.
The model, developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard, describes four leadership styles: directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating. A manager leading a brand-new employee might need to direct closely with clear instructions, while a manager leading a seasoned, confident team member might step back and delegate. As an employee’s skill and confidence grow, the leader is expected to shift styles accordingly, rather than leading everyone the same way.
