Screening

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

Screening is the process of evaluating individuals or items to determine their suitability, eligibility, or fit against a specific set of criteria. In recruitment, this usually means assessing candidates early in the hiring process, before interviews, so recruiters can focus their time on the most promising applicants.

Screening typically involves a systematic review: checking resumes against job requirements, verifying qualifications and experience, running background or reference checks, and sometimes using skills tests or assessments. The goal is to filter out candidates who do not meet the baseline requirements and move forward only with those who do.
