Request for Proposal (RFP)

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

A Request for Proposal, or RFP, is a document companies use to gather information about services from a potential supplier or vendor. These documents are more complex than RFQs, since they ask for more than just a price.

An RFP provides detailed information about the goals and nature of the project the company needs completed. It also spells out things like the number of pages and illustrations the proposal should contain, what laws the project is subject to, and what qualifications the contractors should have. Depending on the project, the company may ask for other information as well.
