Relieving Letter

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

A relieving letter is a formal letter issued to an employee when they leave an organization. It formally confirms to the employee that their resignation has been accepted.

A relieving letter is also required when joining a new company, since most employers ask for one as proof of a clean exit. It should clearly state the employee’s last working day and confirm that they have no outstanding dues with the organization.
