Overtime

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

Overtime refers to the additional hours an employee works beyond their regular, standard working hours. It is typically compensated at a higher pay rate, meant to recognize and reward employees for working beyond the standard workweek, often defined as 40 hours in many countries.

Overtime pay rates can vary, but they commonly range from 1.5 to 2 times the regular hourly wage.
