Notice Period

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

A notice period is the timeframe in an employment contract that runs from when an employee submits their resignation letter to their last working day. Employees typically give notice as a courtesy, letting the employer know with enough advance time before they leave for a new job.

During the notice period, the employee is expected to keep working and help with the transition, which might mean training a successor or wrapping up pending work before formally leaving the organization.
