Management by Objectives

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

Management by Objectives (MBO), also known as Management by Results (MBR), is a results-driven process that defines objectives within an organization so that behaviors, intentions, and initiatives all point toward achieving them. The idea behind MBO is that people are more motivated and productive when they clearly understand their roles and responsibilities.

This way of working gives the whole team or organization a shared understanding of what needs to happen and how, which becomes the foundation for a team that stays on the same page and works toward a common goal.
