Internship

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

An internship is a program employers offer to give potential employees real work experience. They are typically aimed at students, who work one to four months at a company to gain practical, on-the-job or research experience.

No two internships look exactly alike. Some are part-time, others full-time, and they can last anywhere from a week to a year. There are internships for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, and they come in paid, unpaid, credit-bearing, and virtual forms. Employment is not guaranteed at the end, but many employers use internships to train and evaluate people who might become future employees.
