Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

A financial year, also called a fiscal year or accounting year, is a 12-month period that organizations and governments use for accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. It does not have to follow the calendar year and can start on whatever date fits the organization’s choice or legal requirements. In India, it runs from April 1 to March 31.
