Digital Nomad Visa

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

A digital nomad visa is a residence permit that lets remote workers live and work legally in a foreign country for an extended stretch of time, usually a year or more. It is aimed at people who earn their income from employers or clients outside the host country while working remotely through a laptop and an internet connection.

Countries issue these visas for different reasons. Some want to attract skilled workers and bring money into the local economy, others are more interested in boosting long-term residency or tourism. The visa sits in a gap that did not really exist before: it is not a tourist visa, and it is not a standard work permit tied to a local employer. It is built specifically for people whose work has no fixed location.
