What is a voucher?
A voucher is a document that serves as proof for an accounting transaction. Essentially, it records what goods or services were purchased or provided, authorizes the payment, and feeds into the ledger where all transactions ultimately get recorded.
What is a credit voucher?
A credit voucher records a transaction involving monetary payment, cash or cheque, and is also commonly called a receipt voucher. There are two types:
- Cash credit/receipt voucher — records a cash payment received
- Bank credit/receipt voucher — records payment received via cheque or demand draft
