Contract Employee

Updated on: October 14, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

A contract employee is someone hired for a set period or a specific project under a contract, rather than brought on as permanent staff. They work independently or through a staffing agency, bringing in specialized skills a company needs for a limited stretch of time.

Their employment has a defined start and end date, with pay and terms spelled out in the agreement itself. Companies hire this way to get access to specialized talent without a long-term commitment, especially when demand is changing or a specific project calls for it.
