Automated Clearing House (ACH)

Updated on: October 13, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

An Automated Clearing House, or ACH, is a nationwide electronic payment network in the United States that moves money between banks and credit unions. Instead of writing paper checks, money gets withdrawn or deposited electronically, which makes the whole process faster, safer, and cheaper to run. It is the system behind things like direct deposit for wages.
