Annualized Salary

Updated on: October 13, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

What is annualized salary?

Annualized salary is a projection of what someone would earn in a full year if they kept working at their current pay rate, regardless of how long they have actually been employed. It turns hourly wages, partial-year work, or seasonal work into a 12-month equivalent so you can compare them on the same scale. To calculate it, multiply the hourly rate by the standard work week, usually 40 hours, then by 52 weeks.

Knowing how to calculate it makes it easier to compare different employment types and build accurate budget projections. The difference between annualized and annual salary comes down to this: annual salary is what someone actually earned over the year, while annualized salary is a projection of what they would earn. It gives you a standardized way to compare compensation across different work arrangements and schedules.
