AI Copilot
An AI copilot is an assistant built into a software product that helps you get your own work done faster: drafting, summarizing, answering questions, or suggesting what to do next. It responds to what you ask and generates text or recommendations, but you are still the one who acts on it. That is the real line between a copilot and an agent, which plans and carries out tasks on its own through tools in a reason-act-observe loop.
Copilots are intent-driven. They run when you ask them to, inside whatever application they live in, and they know that application's context: your documents, your calendar, your tickets. What they do not know is an organization's approval chains, grade structures, or policy dependencies, unless some other system that actually holds that context feeds it to them.
In enterprise HR, that makes a copilot a surface where work gets delivered, not the system that decides what the work should be.
