Advanced Earned Income Credit (AEIC)

Updated on: October 13, 2026 Sneha Gondhale 1 min read

The Advanced Earned Income Credit (AEIC) let eligible low-to-moderate-income workers receive part of their Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in their regular paychecks throughout the year, instead of waiting for one lump sum at tax time. The goal was to get money to people when they needed it, for rent, groceries, and other everyday costs, rather than making them wait for a refund.

The IRS discontinued the AEIC program starting with the 2011 tax year. Workers who qualify for the EITC still get the full credit today, just as a single payment when they file their return, not spread across paychecks.
