Candidate Engagement
Candidate engagement refers to how actively and positively a candidate participates throughout the recruitment process. It covers the quality of communication between recruiter and candidate from first contact through to offer, and in some cases beyond.
In practical terms, engagement is measured by signals: are candidates opening emails, responding to messages, attending interviews, completing assessments, and staying interested as the process moves forward? A drop-off at any stage is worth examining, since disengagement often indicates a friction point in the process rather than a loss of interest in the role.
Building consistent engagement involves three elements working together. Someone needs to own the process and understand who the audiences are at each stage. There needs to be a clear strategy for how and when to communicate. And the right tools need to be in place to execute that strategy and track whether it’s working.
