Aptitude Testing

Updated on: June 29, 2026 Mayuri 1 min read

Aptitude testing is a common part of the recruitment process. The tests are designed to measure how a candidate thinks rather than what they know, assessing reasoning ability, problem-solving, and mental agility within a set time limit.

The appeal for employers is that aptitude scores provide a consistent, comparable data point across candidates. Technical skills and experience vary by background. Aptitude testing tries to measure underlying potential: how quickly someone processes information, spots patterns, or works through an unfamiliar problem.

Tests are scored on a range from lowest to highest, and results are typically used alongside interviews and other assessments rather than as a standalone hiring decision.
