CV / Resume

CV and resume are probably the two most common terms thrown around in recruitment, and people often use them interchangeably, though they’re not quite the same thing. CV is short for Curriculum Vitae, Latin for “course of life.”

Both documents cover similar ground: achievements, experience, personal details, all aimed at getting you to that first interview conversation. The real difference comes down to length and purpose. A resume is typically one or two pages, hitting the key facts about your professional experience, education, and skills. A CV runs much longer, mapping out your entire career in detail. In practice, resumes are what you use for most job applications, while CVs tend to show up specifically in academic contexts.
