Chief Executive Officer {CEO}
A CEO, or Chief Executive Officer, holds the highest-ranking position in a company’s C-suite. The role centers on making major corporate decisions, managing the company’s overall operations and resources, and serving as its public face, the person ultimately accountable for the big calls.
The CEO also acts as the main link to the board of directors, reporting to them and answering for the company’s performance overall. In many organizations, the title shows up under different names: Managing Director, President, Chief Executive.
Typical CEO responsibilities include:
- Communicating with shareholders, government bodies, and the public on the company’s behalf
- Steering the company toward both short- and long-term goals
- Setting the company’s vision and mission
- Evaluating other executive leaders, including directors, the COO, vice presidents, and presidents
- Identifying risks to the company and making sure they’re monitored and kept in check
