The Karnataka Labour Welfare Fund Act,1965

This act establishes a fund to finance and conduct activities that promote the welfare of labour in the state of Karnataka. Employees, employers, and the State Government contribute in a 6:12:6 ratio per employee per annum. A separate board, made up of employer, employee, and state representatives, oversees the fund.

Applicability

  • Applies to any establishment or employer employing fifty or more persons
  • Covers all employees engaged for wages to do skilled, unskilled, manual, or clerical work
  • Covered establishments: factories, motor omnibus services, plantations, and workshops; shops and commercial establishments, charitable trusts, and societies registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960, that employed more than fifty persons on any working day during the preceding twelve months
  • Applies only to employees doing skilled or unskilled, manual or clerical work — not applicable to supervisors, managers, or other officers
