Once employer registration is complete, the employer must register every employee under the establishment, providing details like name, father’s name, address, date of birth, gender, date of joining, family details, nominee details, and a declaration.
For employees registering under the scheme for the first time, an insurance number is allotted and a Temporary Identity Card (TIC) is generated. The TIC is valid for 3 months from registration, during which the employee must enrol for a Pehchan Card. For employees already registered elsewhere, their record is simply linked to the current employer — visible on both the Employer and Employee portals.
Employers are responsible for uploading employees’ personal details, including family members — but this doesn’t extend to changing an employee’s name. Employers must also confirm an employee doesn’t already have an existing Insurance Number before registering them as new.
Once an Employee Has an Insurance Number
- It’s valid for their lifetime — no need to re-register after a job or location change.
- It’s a unique number, valid across the country.
- If an employee has already contributed against a particular Insurance Number, that same number must continue to be used.
