Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is the practice of contracting a third-party vendor to handle specific business functions. The vendor takes full responsibility for managing and running the outsourced process, leaving the organization free to focus on other priorities.
BPO started in large manufacturing companies as a way to manage supply chain operations more efficiently. It has since expanded across industries: telecoms, banking, real estate, healthcare, IT, and beyond. Today it’s as common in startups looking to access specialized expertise without building it in-house as it is in large enterprises managing cost and scale.
The appeal is consistent regardless of company size: access to specialist knowledge, reduced operational overhead, and the ability to scale specific functions without proportionally growing internal headcount.
